Overview
After Oracle purchased Siebel Systems in 2005, they soon realised that in Siebel Analytics they had acquired a hidden gem in the product portfolio. The product has since been re-branded as Oracle Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition (OBIEE) and now forms the cornerstone of Oracle's BI strategy. Siebel Analytics was embraced by the users of the Siebel CRM application and many have deployed reports and dashboards to thousands of users, however Siebel never generated enough interest outside of the CRM community. Oracle now positions OBIEE as their flagship BI product and a serious challenger to the traditional BI vendors, such as Business Objects and Cognos.
The position now taken by Oracle has left many Discoverer users wondering about their options. Should they stick with the tried and trusted Discoverer platform, now referred to as Oracle BI Suite Standard Edition (OBISE), or should they seriously consider migrating to the Enterprise Edition?
In this white paper we take an impartial look at the OBIEE platform from the Discoverer users' perspective and attempt to answer some of their questions.
